The Implementation of Community Service (Kuliah Kerja Nyata - KKN) by Group 3 of Setia Budi University Surakarta in Giriwondo Village: Empowering the Community and Contributing to Development
Abstract
Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is one form of community engagement that not only constitutes an essential part of higher education curriculum but also serves as a platform for students to apply the knowledge acquired in higher education to real-world contexts. This study evaluates the implementation of KKN by Group 3 of Setia Budi University Surakarta in Giriwondo Village, Karanganyar Regency. The focus is on efforts for renewal and community empowerment through various programs such as training in making aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil, integrated health posts (posyandu), stunting awareness campaigns, provision of supplementary feeding, elderly health check-ups, as well as mental health education and screening. In addition to the planned programs, supplementary activities such as coloring contests, tutoring sessions, Quranic education teaching, and community service were also conducted in response to local demands and needs. The results indicate that KKN has successfully delivered significant benefits to the surrounding community. Furthermore, KKN has strengthened social interaction between students and the local community, and made positive contributions to development and renewal in Giriwondo Village. The importance of the KKN program as a form of community service is reflected in the awareness of students' active role in advancing the region, enhancing overall community welfare, and reinforcing university involvement in addressing social issues at the local level. The findings of this study underscore the importance of synergistic collaboration between universities, students, and communities in achieving sustainable and inclusive development.
