Abstract

Migrant worker families are one example of families who live long-distance relationships, not a few also experience breakdowns that end in divorce. However, among those that are broken, there are still migrant worker families who have resilience. The objective of this research is to examine the resilience or the ability of families to withstand the pressures and problems arising from the consequences of employment, which result in long-term long-distance relationships. Long-distance relationships within families lead to each family member developing new habits, necessitating readjustment with their partner, which can cause friction within the family. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with descriptive research. The subjects of the study are families where one spouse has recently returned from working abroad as a migrant worker. Data is collected using in-depth interviews and observation. The results of the study show that resource support provides strength within the family, specifically the presence of the spouse in supporting and neutralizing problems. Strong resource support includes dominant attitudes, expressions of positive attitudes, partnership in spirituality, partnership in carrying out rituals and routines, partnership in discussion and communication, partnership in financial management, and building good relationships with relatives and neighbors. Maintaining family relationships, creating a positive atmosphere, protecting mutual dignity, and achieving a solid shared life contribute to the development of social resilience.
