Abstract

Poor time management is a common problem among first-year students due to the transition from high school to university. First-year students who experience time management difficulties tend to do academic procrastination. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between time management and academic procrastination in first-year students at the Faculty of Medicine, Pattimura University for the 2023/2024 academic year. This study is a quantitative research involving 202 students of the class of 2023 through total sampling. The data collection technique is to fill out questionnaires offline on campus. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS with a chi-square test. The results showed that first-year students had good category time management, low category academic procrastination, and there was a significant relationship between time management and academic procrastination in first-year students. The implication of this study is that universities can create time management training during the orientation period to reduce academic procrastination, hold seminars on time management and task management techniques, provide counseling guidance services for students who have difficulties with time management and academic procrastination.
